Why I should be a cheesy minister.

I realized something today that was a little surprising. It's a simple, really short idea but it's a little cheesy. Here it is:

The only difference between immortality and immorality is the letter "t."

Without that second "t" you define a word that is essentially the embodiment of sin. With that second "t" you define a word that is essentially the embodiment of eternity. I've never noticed that.

But what's really interesting is how closely the letter t resembles a cross. Think about it, when you look at a letter t it is almost impossible to not see a tiny cross there. So when I see those two words together I don't just see two words. I see Christ.

I see his sacrifice and willingness to step into my immorality with a cross and change it to immortality.

It's subtle, maybe a little cheesy, but it stopped me in my tracks today. And I hope it causes you to pause too.

It is cheesy - but so are most good word pictures. :) I hadn't thought about this myself. I think I will.

Haha, that's totally cheesy. But I love it.

I bet you could make that into a bumper sticker.

"Immorality is just immortality without the T."

No. Wait. That didn't work.

(Still, good lesson.)

I was the producer responsible for video production and songwords for a traditional service a few years back. I found out about this the hard way.

A hymn was delivered late and our song words operator quickly tpyed them up and spell checked.

"God gives us the gift of immorTal gladness"
became
"God gives us the gift or IMMORAL gladness"

True story...

This blew me away:

Here's a story about a mountain climber, who wanted to climb the highest mountain. He begun his adventure after many years of preparation, but since he wanted the glory just for himself, he decided to climb the mountain alone.

The night felt heavy in the heights of the mountain, and the man could not see anything. All was black. Zero visability, and the moon and the stars were covered with clouds.

As he was climbing, only a few feet away from the top of the mountain, he slipped and fell into the air, falling at a great speed. The climber could only see black spots as he went down, and the terrible sensation of being sucked by gravity. He kept falling, and in those moments of great fear, it came to his mind all the good and bad episodes of his life.

He was thinking now about how close death was getting, when all of a sudden he felt the rope tied to his waist pull him very hard.

His body was hanging in the air... Only the rope was holding him, and in that moment of stillness he had no other choice but to scream "HELP ME GOD!"

All of a sudden, a deep voice coming from the sky answered. "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?"

The man said... "SAVE ME, GOD!"

GOD said "DO YOU REALLY THINK I CAN SAVE YOU?"

The man said "OF COURSE I BELIEVE YOU CAN!"

..."THEN CUT THE ROPE TIED TO YOUR WAIST"...

There was a moment of silence, and the man decided to hold onto the rope with all his strength...

The rescue team tells, that the next day a climber was found dead frozen,,, his body hanging from a rope... his hands holding tight to it... only 10 feet away from the ground...

This story was so profound -> and it's been nagging at me since I read it... I'm trying to learn to let go... and let GOD!

the only difference between "enter" and "center" is the letter "c".

so, if you want to "enter" into His presence and "c" His face, he has to be the "center" of your world...(insert vomit sound here)

Great insight. I start to wonder if cheese is really appropriate for it as such a profound statement. I think people use cheesy way too much. Maybe because I want to be liked and don't want people to criticize me with that word.

Maybe i am just over analyzing as well.

If I might be permitted to age the cheese (has the metaphor been murdered yet?)
It seems like the whole immorality/immortality comes to a head in the garden of Eden. Adam and Eve are engaged in the first immorality while looking for imortality. I could probably figure out some way to pull the whole "t" looks like Jesus who redeemed their fall, but that honestly sounds like a lot of work, so I think I'm done offering my 2 cents.

yeah and the only difference between finance and fiance is the letter "n"...as in "n" control of your wallet...
male to female of course

Cheesy, yes, but awesome. I love little word-play things like that. I'm just jealous I didn't think of it first.

Great stuff. I'm enjoying your blogs immensely.
